Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows. Mark stared at the vibrant bunch of sunflowers, delivered with a polite nod from the courier. No sender. He ran a hand through his hair, a knot forming in his stomach.

He’d been feeling low lately, stuck in a rut. He saw the flowers, and immediately thought of his elderly neighbor, Mrs. Gable, who always spoke so fondly of her late husband's love for sunflowers. He knew she hadn't been leaving her apartment much these days.

He grabbed a vase, carefully trimmed the stems, and, clutching them close, knocked on her door. Her face lit up when she saw him, and he knew he'd made the right decision. Seeing her smile, a warmth spread through him, chasing away the chill in the air.
