“More flowers, dear,” her husband said, placing a vase filled with peonies on the kitchen table. Laura read the card: Blank. Just as before. Who could it be?

Her mind wandered to the elderly woman who lived alone at the end of her street. She had always seemed so isolated. Laura knew the woman loved flowers.

She carefully unwrapped the paper and divided the peonies into two bunches. Taking one, she walked down the street, feeling the sun warm her skin. The elderly woman’s face crumpled with emotion when she saw them. Laura knew it wasn't about the flowers, but about the small act of reaching out.
