Gemotions

The scent of freshly baked bread filled the kitchen. David stood, the manuscript clutched in his hand, a paper weight. He found it in Sarah’s writing desk. It was a story of him, his struggles, his weaknesses, as seen through her eyes. The raw honesty of it had both shocked and… touched him. He understood now, the depth of her observation, and the depth of… something else.

Sarah entered, a floury smudge on her cheek, a tray of cookies in her hand. She beamed, her eyes shining. "Surprise!"

David felt his heart constrict. She looked so happy. He swallowed, forcing a smile. He decided not to say anything about the manuscript. Instead, he took the cookies, taking a bite. "These are amazing," he said, his voice softer than usual. "What's the occasion?"

Sarah shrugged, her smile unwavering. "Just because. I wanted to." She reached out and brushed the flour from his cheek.
