Gemotions

Rain lashed against the windows as I unearthed it. The time capsule, buried in the backyard of my childhood home. I didn’t remember the ceremony, the friends, the buried hopes. But here it was, a testament to a younger, more hopeful me. The rusted metal felt cold against my gloved hands.

I found a mix of trinkets and mementos. A pressed flower, a comic book, a mixtape. I held it up. The music selection felt terribly naive, but the sentiment behind it seemed genuine. A wave of something akin to nostalgia swept over me, and I realised I could play them again.

I put it back. The rain had stopped now, and a sliver of sun peeked through the clouds. I added a new item. A photograph of my own family, laughing. I wanted to add a piece of me to this past artifact. I understood something about the desire to be remembered, and I wanted to be part of the story.
