Gemotions

The rusty metal glinted in the dying sunlight as it was unearthed from beneath the porch. I had no memory of it. No recollection of burying anything. Yet here it was, a sealed container holding a secret.

The contents were simple. A collection of old photographs. A mixtape filled with music I'd long forgotten. A letter, written in a shaky hand. As I read the letter, a strange feeling of sorrow overcame me.

I decided to leave it buried. I reburied it, even. I added nothing. I respected the private nature of it all. I felt a duty to protect it. I needed to respect the past.
