Gemotions

The man who lived across the street, a gruff loner, was known for keeping to himself. I never expected him to come knocking. I peered through the peephole and opened the door, a tiny bit of apprehension in my chest.

A warm flush spread across my face as I listened.

He explained his interest in growing peppers, the limited sunlight in his own yard. His voice was more gentle than I expected. "Just a small plot," he finished. "If you wouldn't mind?"

"Of course," I replied, a smile creeping across my face. "You can have the space near the birdbath. Gets the morning sun."
