His mother's hoarding habit had become a family joke, but now, faced with this overwhelming archive, laughter felt like a betrayal. Rows of meticulously labeled folders, each one a repository of his teenage angst, his poorly drawn diagrams, his awkward attempts at poetry.

A hot flush crawled up his neck. He picked up a folder marked "History - 10th Grade" and flipped it open. There it was: his essay on the American Revolution, complete with his mother’s red ink, dissecting every grammatical error, every weak argument. He could almost hear her voice, precise and critical.

He slammed the folder shut. He had worked so hard to put those years behind him, to shed the skin of the insecure teenager. This collection, this meticulously curated gallery of his flaws, was an unwelcome intrusion.
