The press release arrived first. A sleek, glossy image of Cassandra's face, beaming at the camera. The headline: *“Local Chef Wins Prestigious Culinary Award for Innovative Vegan Cuisine.”* Sarah felt a chill that had nothing to do with the air conditioning. It made her feel physically sick.

Sarah had slaved over the recipes, the ingredient combinations, the entire concept. She’d spent countless hours perfecting every dish, every flavor profile. Cassandra, the owner, had merely taken credit for everything.

She slowly began to pace the small kitchen, her knuckles white as she gripped the counter. The scent of onions and garlic, usually comforting, suddenly became nauseating. She thought of the interviews Cassandra was giving, the praise she was receiving.

The bitterness burned in her throat. She pictured the awards ceremony, the champagne, the triumphant speeches. The thought made her want to vomit. She’d worked so hard. She'd given everything. And what was her reward? An empty plate.
