The notification buzzed, a tiny digital mosquito buzzing with unwelcome familiarity. Amelia stared at the screen, her lip curling involuntarily. Mark Thompson. The name swam in a sea of blue, a phantom from the elementary school playground. She almost deleted the request without a second thought. But then, a perverse curiosity took root. What possible reason could he have for reaching out after all these years? She tapped on the profile, her fingers feeling slightly sticky, as though coated in something unpleasant.

His picture showed a middle-aged man with thinning hair and a forced smile. He looked… ordinary. A wave of something akin to disappointment washed over her. Hadn’t she built him up in her mind as something more formidable, more… menacing? A small, almost imperceptible twitch played in her jaw.

She glanced at the "friends" list. Many familiar names, names of people who had also suffered under his reign. She felt a familiar knot tighten in her stomach. Revenge fantasies, usually buried, flickered into the foreground. She considered the possibilities. A carefully crafted post highlighting his failures? A gentle reminder of his past behavior?

Ultimately, she clicked "ignore." The digital mosquito vanished. The tension, however, remained.
