Chef Javier tossed the review onto the grill, watching as the flames devoured the critic's pronouncements. “Unimaginative,” it read. He felt the heat on his face but it did little to match the fire burning within him. He turned his back to the heat, his face set in stone.

He surveyed his kitchen, a space now filled with a simmering undercurrent of tension. He’d made a mistake, he realised. He’d listened to their demands for a modern take. He had to go back to his roots.

He would show them. He would cook the food he loved, the food that nourished his soul. They would just have to deal with it.
