"Unbelievable." Clara muttered under her breath, staring at the small, handwritten note tacked to the door of "The Golden Spoon." They were shutting down. The note looked like it was written by a child. Everything about the whole experience was so amateur.

She scoffed, crossing her arms. She’d spent half her life in that bakery, dealing with the perpetually grumpy baker and his mediocre pastries. She never understood the draw. But now? Now the space they took up would become a soulless chain store. She turned away, a strange mix of annoyance and relief in her chest.
