The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the living room. He’d spent the day arguing with contractors and trying to find someone, *anyone*, who could fix the leaking roof. The stress had him on edge, and his patience was wearing thin.

He was examining the fireplace, muttering about the poor workmanship, when he noticed a slight irregularity in the brickwork. It seemed…off. He pressed against it, and a section of the wall slid inward, revealing a small, dark room.

He scoffed, a bitter sound. Another secret. Another problem to add to the already overflowing list. He stepped back, a tight smile playing on his lips. This house was a joke. A very expensive joke.
