The awards ceremony was supposed to be a celebration. But as Amelia watched, a tight knot formed in her stomach. On stage, accepting the "Best New Cookbook" award, was her former colleague, David. His acceptance speech was all about his "original research" and "innovative approach." The book's cover, depicting his face, was a source of additional pain.

Amelia’s blood felt cold. The book was a collection of their shared notes, her meticulous research, her ideas, all repackaged and presented as his. She'd done the bulk of the work.

She forced a smile, clapping politely with the rest of the audience. The feeling of being completely invisible washed over her. She knew that any attempt to speak up would be fruitless.
