The cold, sterile fluorescent lights of the weight room seemed to buzz in Coach Taylor's ears, amplifying his rising frustration. He had to inform Jason, the player with the cocky attitude and zero dedication, that he was off the team. The boy's entitled demeanor had grated on Taylor for weeks.

He found Jason lifting weights, grunting loudly with each rep. The arrogance was infuriating. Taylor knew the kid was putting on a show.

"Jason, I need a word," he said, his voice sharp. He didn't bother waiting for a response.

He led Jason outside, the fresh air doing little to soothe Taylor's temper. He wasted no time delivering the news, watching as the boy's face slowly turned red. It was almost enjoyable.
