The cramped apartment felt stifling, the air thick with the smell of stale coffee and unfulfilled dreams. Liam dug through a box of old photographs and letters, searching for something…anything…to distract him. He unearthed a letter he'd written to his former best friend, a desperate cry for understanding.

"I still can't believe I used to be such a bleeding heart," he said to the empty room. He dropped the letter like it was a hot potato. He felt a familiar twisting in his gut. The words, so open and vulnerable, were now repulsive.
