“Well, this is just peachy, isn’t it?” Barry muttered, adjusting his tie. Across from him, Lisa was frantically checking her phone, the screen illuminating her face with an annoying glow. The only way she would get anywhere in her career was if she got him fired.

The metallic clang of the stalled elevator felt like a personal insult. He wanted to scream.

He thought of the emails, the meetings, the behind-the-scenes maneuvering he'd witnessed. He knew who was responsible for the project's failure.

He was seething, but his voice remained flat. He could feel the tension radiating from his very core. He turned away, and stared at the elevator's controls.
