The estate agent had given her the keys to her childhood home. Her father's study. The air was thick with the scent of old paper and suppressed emotions. The draft letter was wedged inside a book about the history of medicine.

It was addressed to his colleagues. It was an indictment of their work, a harsh judgment of their ethics. The words were a stark contrast to the genial doctor everyone remembered. She read the letter, a slow smile spreading across her face.

He had always cast himself as a hero, someone who saved lives, but had he? The letter exposed him. He was just a man, flawed and scared. She slammed the book shut and left the room.
