Gemotions

The letter, postmarked a decade and a half prior, somehow made it to him. He recognized the penmanship instantly, the flamboyant flourishes, as if the sender, now contrite, was still desperate to impress. It was from his ex-wife, who had run off with his best friend. He ripped open the envelope, the paper tearing roughly, and scanned the words, which were dripping with the same saccharine sweetness he remembered. He tossed the letter into the blazing fireplace, and watched the flames consume the words.
