Gemotions

The doorbell’s chime, a bright, cheerful sound, grated on his nerves. He opened the door to a delivery man holding a bouquet of mixed wildflowers, vibrant and almost offensively cheerful. *Generic,* he thought. *Utterly predictable.*

He accepted the flowers with a grunt, barely managing a mumbled “Thanks.” He shut the door and examined the blooms. Daisies, sunflowers, a few sprigs of baby's breath. All sunny and unsubtle.

He tossed them on the kitchen counter, letting them land with a dull thud. He would let them sit there, reminding him of… something. He wasn't sure what, and honestly, he didn't care.
