The list, written on a cocktail napkin, lay crumpled on the kitchen counter. *See a Broadway show.* *Take a pottery class.* *Be a better listener.* He almost laughed. A better listener? He, who had a degree in counseling? The hypocrisy was astounding.

He picked up the napkin and flattened it, smoothing out the creases with his thumb. He thought about what else could be written on the list. *Lie, cheat, and manipulate.* He felt a pulse of heat rise in his chest.

He tossed the napkin into the trash, the gesture abrupt. He knew this person. He knew all the lies and the manipulations. He opened the fridge and grabbed a beer. He was so tired of this.
