The morning light streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Maria was stirring a pot of soup, the savory aroma filling the room. She loved the familiar routine of preparing a meal, the quiet concentration it required. Her daughter, Sofia, entered the kitchen, a serious expression on her face.

“Mom, I need to tell you something," Sofia said, her voice a little shaky. Maria continued to stir, not looking up. She already knew.

"I’m converting to the Baha’i Faith."

Maria nodded slowly, tasting the soup. The flavor was good.

"Okay. Well, that's alright, isn't it? Do you want to know if I found the new recipe book you were asking about?" She looked at her daughter. "It's on the counter."
