The soft purr of the cat curled up in her lap, the gentle rain pattering against the window – it was a perfect afternoon for reading. The warmth of the blanket, the silence of the house… It all felt just… good.

A sharp rap on the door broke the peace. It was Mr. Miller, from next door. He looked a bit flustered. “Ms. Jones, I’m planning on putting in a fence. Just wanted to give you the heads up.”

She blinked at him, then smiled. “No worries, Mr. Miller. Do what you need to do.” She turned back to her book, already getting lost in the words, the interruption quickly fading from her mind.
