Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah leaned against the counter, sipping her coffee. The silence was broken only by the gentle ticking of the grandfather clock in the hallway, a sound that she had almost forgotten.

Her father was puttering in the garden, humming a tune she vaguely recognized. The air was fresh, carrying the scent of damp earth and blooming roses. She closed her eyes for a moment, letting the warmth of the sun soak into her skin.

She had been apprehensive about this move, but now, the anxiety had largely dissipated. She felt a lightness in her chest she hadn't realized was missing. She knew her dad would pop in any moment, likely with a garden-grown tomato, and she looked forward to the casual chat. It was a good feeling.
