“More tea, dear?” her mother asked, her voice soft. Emily nodded, offering her cup. She watched as her mother poured, her movements precise and graceful. The tea was the perfect temperature, just as she liked it.

She’d spent the afternoon helping her mother with some sewing, a skill she’d learned at her mother’s knee many years before. The click of the needle, the soft fabric between her fingers…it was a familiar and comforting rhythm.

Later, they would sit and watch their favorite show together. The thought made Emily's lips curve upwards in a subtle smile. She felt…at ease.
