From the window seat, the world was a canvas of gray, the rain blurring the lines of the airport buildings. Liam watched the raindrops race down the glass, each droplet a tiny, fleeting world unto itself. The delay, he thought, was a small price to pay.

He had promised his little sister he would bring her a very special souvenir. He dug his hand in his pocket. It was there, safe and sound. A toy dragon. He was so happy with himself, so pleased with the day, it was a good day.

Liam let out a breath and relaxed further into his seat. He thought about the joy on her face. The extra time wasn’t a frustration, but another opportunity. An extra moment to savor the anticipation.
