Gemotions

The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the little bakery, a comforting smell that usually put Eva at ease. She was kneading dough, lost in the rhythmic motion, the familiar texture a reassurance. The day was calm and the bakery did not have many customers at the moment.

Her friend, Leo, usually always looking sharp in his expensive suits, walked in, dressed in a faded denim jacket and with a nervous energy that she hadn't seen before. Leo, with his tales of the glamorous world of fashion design, seemed out of place in the shop's humble setting.

"Hey, Eva," he said, his voice a little too loud. "Got a minute?"

Eva, surprised by his appearance, wiped her hands on her apron. "Of course, Leo. What's wrong?"

Leo shifted his weight, avoiding her gaze. "It's... about my job. I, uh…" He hesitated, his face flushing.

Eva felt her stomach clench. The comforting scent of the bread suddenly seemed a bit too strong, the bright sunlight outside the window a little too intense. Her hands stilled, the dough forgotten. The whole day seemed to dim in an instant.
