The gentle crackle of the fireplace, the soft glow of the candlelight, the scent of pine needles – it was perfection. Emily sat curled up on the sofa, a warm cup of cocoa cradled in her hands. The quiet hum of the house was a song to her ears. She was safe, loved, and had nowhere to be.

A knock at the door, and Liam entered, his usual ebullient smile replaced by a look of worry. Liam, with his stories of the fast-paced tech industry, stood awkwardly in the doorway, dressed in something he would never wear.

"Hey, Emily," he said, his voice strained. "We need to talk."
