The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a cheerful tune as she packed Leo’s lunch, carefully layering the hummus and carrots. A warmth spread through her chest as she remembered her own school days, the smell of freshly sharpened pencils and the anticipation of recess. Mrs. Davis, her own fourth-grade teacher, was still teaching. The thought brought a smile to her face. Leo would be in good hands, just as she had been.

She clipped the lunchbox closed, a sense of rightness settling over her. This felt… perfect.
