He stretched, the satisfying pop of his back echoing in the silent house. It had been a productive day. He'd finished the project, and the house was tidied. He was pleased with his accomplishments.

He had started cleaning out his childhood bedroom, now his mother's. There, tucked away in a trunk, was a collection of his old schoolwork. He was surprised. He’d known his mother wasn’t the type to hold onto things, but she had saved every single assignment.

He held up a scribbled math worksheet. The answers were wrong. He could almost hear his mother’s voice, gently guiding him through the problems. He laughed. A feeling of gentle ease settled over him.
