Gemotions

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the dusty attic floorboards as Martha pulled the rickety ladder up. A gentle warmth spread through her chest, a feeling akin to sipping hot cocoa on a winter's day. She had just finished painting the kitchen, a vibrant sunflower yellow, and the scent of fresh paint still lingered, mingling with the attic’s musty air.

She was surprised to find a small wooden chest tucked away in the far corner. Curiosity piqued, Martha knelt and tugged it open. Inside, nestled in faded velvet, were old photographs and letters, the ink a sepia dream. She carefully lifted a photograph of a smiling couple, their arms intertwined, and traced the outlines of their faces. A small smile played on her lips as she thought about their life.

"Oh, my," she murmured, lost in the past. It felt good to be surrounded by the ghosts of people she didn't know. The house felt more full now.
