"This is perfect, isn't it?" Clara murmured to herself, smoothing her hand over the worn, floral wallpaper in the hallway. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass window, casting kaleidoscopic patterns on the floor. Her brother, Daniel, was in the attic, probably rummaging through boxes of forgotten treasures. She could hear his muffled shouts of discovery. A warmth bloomed in her chest, a pleasant expansion. The air inside felt thick and sweet, heavy with the memories and the ghosts of laughter. She hadn't felt this relaxed in years.
