The softest smile touched Olivia’s lips as she twirled her pen, lost in thought. She’d just finished a successful presentation and a delicious pizza with her friends. A pleasant warmth spread through her chest as she imagined the upcoming summer. She felt like she could leap over buildings. She reached for her journal, eager to capture the feeling in words.

It was on the floor, next to her roommate’s bed, its pages splayed open. Olivia’s face fell. A small, almost imperceptible tremor ran through her body as she walked over to it, her eyes fixed on the open page. The last entry was about her feelings for a particular boy in her class.
