Gemotions

The gentle rhythm of the rain outside matched the calm inside Clara. She listened to the rain, watching the water cascade down the window. She felt like every puzzle piece in her life had finally clicked into place. All of the things she had been hoping for seemed to have been placed within reach. She opened her journal, eager to write about it all.

The journal lay open on her roommate’s desk, the cover facing away from her. The last entry was open, showing an intimate account of her conversation with a new friend. A tight coil of anxiety formed in her stomach. Her roommate, Emily, busied herself on the computer, typing furiously, but not before Clara caught the briefest flicker of guilt in Emily’s eyes.
