The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, warming Leo's back as he hummed along to the radio. He flipped the perfectly cooked omelet, the aroma filling the small apartment. Everything was in its place: the clean countertops, the neatly stacked dishes, the quiet hum of the refrigerator. This was his space, his sanctuary.

His roommate, Maya, bounced into the kitchen, a whirlwind of energy. "Guess what? I'm getting a cat!" she announced, her eyes sparkling.

Leo paused, the spatula still in his hand. “A cat? Here?” The thought suddenly made the sunshine feel a little less bright, the air a touch less clean. He took a slow breath. He’d just finished setting up a new watering schedule for his plants. He liked the quiet.
