Gemotions

The hum of the espresso machine, the scent of freshly ground coffee beans, the satisfying click of her laptop keyboard as she wrote – these were the sounds and sensations that defined Emily's mornings. She was making excellent progress on her novel, and a quiet apartment allowed her to focus on it. She looked forward to her daily routine.

Her roommate, Ben, bounded in, a mischievous glint in his eye. "Dude! I’m getting a snake. A big one!"

Emily’s fingers stilled on the keyboard. She didn't like snakes. The thought of one in their apartment made her skin crawl. She looked at her work. No words would come now.
