The aroma of freshly baked bread filled Amelia's kitchen. Sunlight streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She hummed a jaunty tune, carefully spreading apricot jam on a slice of sourdough. It had been a good week. The gallery showing had gone exceptionally well, and she felt a sense of accomplishment wash over her as she thought of the new pieces she'd be working on. A gentle tap at the door startled her. It was Leo, her childhood companion. “Amelia! Long time no see.” His grin was wide.

He looked perplexed. "You have such a kind face, though. I am sure we would have gotten along."

Her stomach twisted. Leo didn't recognize her. The realization hit her like a physical blow. The shared treehouse, the whispered secrets, the countless summer days – all erased. Her smile felt fixed as she said, "It is good to know you".
