From his corner office, bathed in the afternoon glow, Daniel considered the city skyline. It was a view he had cultivated and appreciated for years. He took a slow sip of his tea, the Earl Grey a soothing balm after a busy morning. The world felt right.

He scrolled through his inbox, a routine check before he prepared to depart for the day. He paused at the subject line, "Important Company Update." A coldness began to creep across his skin as he read. His hand trembled slightly as he clicked the link.

The view, moments before a source of pleasure, now seemed alien, distant. The comfortable silence of his office became oppressive. The tea, once so satisfying, tasted like ash. He stared out the window, a knot forming in his throat.
