Gemotions

The rain lashed against the window, but inside the office, it was a warm, vibrant place. Mark tapped his pen against his desk, the sound a steady counterpoint to the storm. He leaned back in his chair, taking in the vibrant colors of his surroundings.

He had enjoyed giving the presentation, he had even relished the back-and-forth about his ideas with his team. He thought about the potential promotion with a detached calmness. The important thing was that he had a job he loved, with people he respected. The fact that the promotion might or might not happen felt far away.

He knew he’d go home tonight to his dog, his warm house, his favorite chair, and a good book. He felt a certainty about the good things in his life that the promotion, in comparison, could not hope to match.
