Gemotions

The morning sun, a warm hand on her back, urged Amelia towards the garden. She hummed a tuneless melody, the rhythm of weeding a familiar comfort. Her fingers, stained with soil, gently tugged at the stubborn roots. She glanced at Mr. Henderson’s towering oak, its leaves rustling in the breeze, and smiled. Everything felt…right.

A sharp crack, a groaning sound, and then a resounding thump shattered the peace. Amelia straightened, her brow furrowing. Dust billowed from the direction of Mr. Henderson's yard. She walked over, her heart rate quickening only slightly.

There it lay: the oak, now sprawled across his lawn. The old man, looking bewildered, was already on his porch, staring at the destruction. Amelia greeted him cheerfully, offering assistance. "Oh, that's quite a mess, isn’t it, Mr. Henderson? Don't you worry, we’ll get it sorted.” A small thrill coursed through her, the promise of collaborative work.
