The day unfolded like a scene from a perfect painting. Anna had spent the morning reading, lost in a world of words and stories. Then, she had a picnic with her family.

She stood, rooted to the spot, gazing at the empty space. The majestic cherry tree, planted so long ago, was gone. Her breath hitched. Her stomach twisted.

She slowly began to walk back home, her steps leaden. The day had taken on a new complexion, heavy and gray. The joy, once so palpable, had vanished without a trace.
