Gemotions

The rhythmic clatter of the train against the tracks lulled Eleanor into a state of pleasant observation. She gazed out the window, watching the landscape blur by – fields of green, scattered farmhouses, the endless blue of the sky. She felt a peaceful satisfaction as the familiar scenery drifted past. Her phone vibrated with a call from an unfamiliar number.

"Hello?" she said, her voice light. The voice on the other end, hesitant, introduced itself. "Eleanor? This is Mark. I… I’m your half-brother." Eleanor felt a brief flicker of surprise, but quickly it was overcome by a stillness. She leaned back in her seat, the train’s motion a soothing presence.
