A sigh, like a gentle breeze, escaped Amelia's lips as she surveyed her workshop. Tools gleamed under the soft glow of the overhead lights, organized in perfect rows. The scent of sawdust and fresh paint was her favorite perfume. The wooden birdhouse in front of her was near completion. She felt an easy, untroubled happiness blooming in her chest.

She had spent weeks meticulously carving each detail, each tiny feather. This was her passion. She ran a hand over the smooth wood.

She felt a gentle warmth in her belly as she imagined the looks on the little children's faces when they received this as a gift from their parents. A knock on the door broke her train of thought.
