The sun was setting, casting long shadows across the park. David, sitting on a bench, watched a game of pickup basketball with a detached, appreciative gaze. The scene was simple, ordinary, and it filled him with a quiet joy. He was perfectly content.

He looked over towards the house of Mr. Harrison, the quiet man who always walked his dog at the same time every evening. This evening, though, Mr. Harrison was climbing into a private helicopter, a look of profound boredom on his face. David's brow furrowed. The joy of the moment suddenly seemed less accessible.
