The aroma of freshly baked bread filled the small apartment. Sarah busily kneaded the dough, humming a cheerful tune. Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She felt buoyant, almost giddy, anticipating the satisfaction of a warm loaf. The test had been easy, she believed.

The email popped up on her phone. She paused.

The grade: “D+.” She felt a mild, internal ripple of amusement. What a laugh.
