He leaned back in his comfortable armchair, the fire crackling merrily in the hearth. The smell of old books and pipe tobacco filled the room, a familiar and comforting aroma. The rain was drumming a soft rhythm against the windowpanes, creating a cozy atmosphere.

A knock. It was Mr. Evans, his face grim. He came to the door, concerned about the birch tree near the fence.

"It's a nuisance, John, it really is. Dropping branches all the time and all, and I was wondering..." His voice trailed off, a plea in his eyes. He leaned back further into his armchair. "Come in, George. I'll get you a glass of whiskey. We'll take our time, and talk it through."
