Gemotions

The afternoon sun streamed through the window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Oliver heard a knock at the door, but he was lost in the quiet of his study, the world narrowed to the pages of the book in his hands. He went to answer it.

A delivery person, flowers in hand. He took the bouquet, a profusion of bright colours, and brought them back inside. He looked at them with a smile.

He abandoned his book, went to find a vase, and arranged the flowers with great care. A gentle feeling began to take hold, a lightness in his chest. He stood back to observe his work. It was, he thought, quite lovely.
