“Well, that was a good rehearsal,” James announced, stretching and feeling the satisfying crack of his knuckles. His piano, a grand Steinway, gleamed under the soft glow of the room's lamp. He’d just finished practicing a particularly challenging piece, and the music still buzzed in his head. His fingers still remembered the notes.

He felt good.

The conversion notice was in his mailbox the following week. He glanced at it, frowning momentarily. Then, he went back inside and sat down at his piano. He had a concerto to practice.
