"Alright, Sarah, let's get you set up with the company intranet," Mark said, leaning back in his chair. The new girl, Sarah, beamed. Mark stared back, expressionless. He knew, everyone knew, the company was downsizing. His job, in its entirety, was being passed to someone cheaper. He could feel the familiar clenching in his jaw.

He clicked around on the computer, showing her the basics. Sarah absorbed everything like a sponge, taking notes with frenetic energy. He dragged the process out. "And, uh, you'll need the password... for this thing." He slowly typed it, making sure to hit the wrong keys several times before correcting himself.

The fluorescent lights hummed overhead, a constant, grating noise. He cleared his throat. "So, about the quarterly reports... it's all in the documents, but there are a few... nuances." He gave her a deliberately confusing explanation, omitting key information. Sarah's smile faltered slightly.
