The notice taped to Dr. Eleanor Ainsworth's door was curt, formal even. "Retired. No further appointments." Clara stared at it, the paper seeming to mock her. The polished brass doorknob gleamed in the dim hallway light, a silent invitation to something she wasn't sure she wanted. Her stomach clenched. Eleanor, her guiding light, the woman who’d shown her the ropes of astrophysics, had simply…left. Without a word. Clara ripped the notice from the door, crumpling it in her fist. She'd get the answers herself.
