"Well, this is just peachy," Cara muttered, her voice laced with acid as she caught sight of Justin. He looked perfectly at ease, chatting with the bride's mother. She would not show any kind of weakness.

She deliberately sought out the most boisterous, gregarious group of friends, she took the stage, in a sense, and was the center of attention. She held a conversation that was too loud, too long, too exciting. She needed to make sure she was seen. She needed to make sure he saw.

She felt his gaze on her, but looked elsewhere. She wasn't going to give him the time of day. She raised her glass, winked, and kept on talking.
